OUR TEAM

Welcome to the Centennial newspaper website! We share news about the goings-on of Centennial CVI and Guelph. We decided to start this newspaper so that every student can get information and news about their school and city. We are very excited for you to read our new articles and topics in the upcoming issues!

We have a great team for the 2022-23 school year! Our editors-in-chief, writers, editors, photographers, and designers work together to produce the newspaper. Each person plays an essential role in its creation. Learn more about us below!

Athavi Nishaanthan

Co-Editor-in-Chief

Athavi is currently in grade 12. She's in Desi Club, Link Crew, and Grad Committee, and has the honour of being Co-Editor-In-Chief of Spartan News for a second year. Athavi originally started off as a writer when the team first started in 2020. As of 2021, she has been Co-Editor-In-Chief. Athavi has a love for reading and creative writing. She is looking forward to starting new projects in her last year at Centennial.

Maximilienne Lalonde is head designer at Spartan News, serving her second year as member of the team. Lover of anything art, literature, and music related, she enjoys creativity, and is inspired by making things a little out of the ordinary. As she nears the end of her high school experience, Maximilienne looks forward to a great year of work with the wonderful crew of Spartan News.

Eden Donohoe is a grade 11 working as head photographer for her third year as a member of the Spartan news. She enjoys sailing, hiking, and canoeing in her free time. She also likes history, the sciences, and cool planes.

Emily is a Grade 10 student at Centennial CVI who is excited to be a web designer for the Spartan News! Emily loves to be in the outdoors, go for runs, bake, play sports, and hang out with friends! Emily also loves horror movies, with her favourite being Get Out. Emily is thrilled to be a member of the newspaper team this year and share her creativity with Centennial!

Sukhman Dhillon (she/her) is a Grade 12 student who is excited to take part in Spartans News as a designer for the first year. She hopes to attend Toronto Metropolitan University next year to study business, and enjoys travelling, music, and concerts. Sukhman's favourite artists are Drake, A Boogie with A Hoodie, and The Weeknd! She also aspires to open up her own business in the future, and dreams to live in New York City one day!

Zoe Lee

Fatemah is a grade 11 student who is excited to join Spartan News as a designer in hopes of expressing her creativity while sharing stories and articles about Guelph and Centennial Spartans. She strives to pursue a career in architecture and to continue her passion as a designer. Her hobbies include sketching, baking, photography, and listening to music. As an Afghan-Canadian, Fatemah is fluent in two languages, Dari and English. Outside of Spartan News, Fatemah is a freelance photographer and designer, a public speaker, and an executive for Stargrowth Tutors.

Simon Quintal is a Gr 12 Grad student, who joined the newspaper this year as a designer. He is very passionate about meeting new people and new friends. He plays with his 2 dogs and 2 cats in his free time. He likes almost every genre of music and loves going to concerts. Simon's favourite author is Stephen King and likes anything horror-related.

LJ Cox is currently in grade 10. This is his first year as part of the Spartan News team. He is the eldest of 3 and has lived in Guelph his whole life. He loves travelling and hopes to have a future of doing more of that. He enjoys photography, watching movies, and playing basketball. Pictures are a great way to capture memories and a great conversation piece when you look back at them. High school years are short and he would love to be a part of creating those memories.

Evelyn Hazelwood

Christina Nelson is currently 15 years old and in grade 10. She is a photographer for the Spartan News. Christina was born and raised in Canada by immigrant parents along with three siblings. She enjoys listening to music and reading mystery books. Christina is optimistic and is passionate about Law.

Evelyn Hazelwood is a grade 12 student who joined newspaper as a photographer. She loves spending time with her dog Ellie. Evelyn is very passionate about raising awareness around mental health. Her favorite TV show is the office and Brooklyn 99. Evelyn also enjoys listening to music and spending time with friends

Ava is a grade 12 student at Centennial, and a photographer for Spartan Newspaper. She was born and raised in Canada by Indian immigrant parents. She is also apart of Social Responsibility, Desi Club, Link Crew and Co-President of Student Council! Ava loves watching TV and spending time with her friends. She is currently watching Modern Family! She is so excited to be apart of the newspaper team this year!

Lucy Hyde is in the tenth grade at CCVI in Guelph Ontario. This is her second year apart of the Centennial Newspaper. Lucy enjoys reading and writing, which sparked her interest for the Spartan Newspaper. Some of her favourite books include Red Queen, The Cruel Prince, and The Chronicles of Narnia. She has a brother in the twelfth grade, two encouraging parents, and a dopey dog named Oakley.

Reda Javid is a proud and engaged member of the Spartan News Club. She is in grade 11 and one of our senior members with the paper. Some of her interests include writing, playing piano, reading and one of her favourite books are 'It Ends With Us' by Colleen Hoover. Reda is committed to keeping Spartans updated about what's going on at Centennial and in the Guelph Community. She's excited to get started this year and hopes students are as well.

Katerina Karvinen

Katrina is a grade 10 student who just turned 15. She absolutely adores traveling, the sunshine and the beach. She is an avid dancer and tennis player, she is also a part of the school's tennis team. She is passionate about aviation and hopes to be a pilot one day. In her free time she enjoys reading and listening to music. Some of her favorite book series are “The Cruel Prince”, “The Daughter of the Pirate King”, and “The Hunger Games”. She is excited to spend another year on the newspaper team.

Isabel is a grade 10 student at Centennial CVI who is excited to be an editor at Spartan News. Isabel loves to express her creativity through writing, drawing, painting, and dancing. She has a passion for tap and jazz and has been dancing with the Guelph Academy of Dance since she was five years old! Though she loves getting active, Isabel also enjoys unwinding by reading or watching movies! Her favorite movies are Little Women, Stand By Me, and Pitch Perfect. Isabel is thrilled to be a member of the newspaper team!

Mabel Taiwo is a Grade 10 at Centennial CVI. She loves writing, reading mystery and philosophy novels, and listening to music 24/7! Her favourite book is The Secret History by Donna Tartt and she is also a big fan of Death Note. She is excited to be a part of the newspaper team this year!

Ella Jones is a 14 year old grade 9 student. She enjoys reading, writing, and playing a variety of video games. She has two cats and a dog who are very cute, super friendly, and potentially evil. Her favourite subject is English, and she loves meeting new people and listening to music. She is thrilled to be a part of the newspaper club, and can't wait to get to writing and editing.

Anna Kelley is a grade 10 student at Centennial and is joining Spartan News again for her second year as a writer. Apart from Spartan News, Anna is also on the school rugby and field hockey team! Anna loves reading and literature and she can't wait to write more articles this year!

Reena is in the tenth grade & is 15 years old. She's a writer on the Spartan Newspaper team. She loves listening to music, writing about interesting topics, getting lost in a good book, and exploring. She can't decide on just one music genre, so she listens to them all. She's a very curious person, so when she gets the chance to get out and explore places, she'll never pass it up. Reena is excited to be moving forward as a member of this amazing team.

Vanessa is a grade 12 student. She is currently in the yearbook committee, Chemistry Club, Computer Science and is a writer for the Spartan News. She is a very creative and adventurous person and enjoys hiking, rollerblading and drawing in her free time. For her last year at Centennial, she is excited to work with the other members at Spartan News and allow everyone to learn what is going on in their school community.

Eli Devine is a grade 11 student at Centennial. His favourite thing is music, some of his favourite artists being Conan Gray, Bon Iver, and Phoebe Bridgers. He also likes reading, writing, and cats. His favourite book is The Wicker King.

Aurni Dutta

Aurni Dutta is currently a grade 12 student at Centennial CVI who is enthusiastic about being a writer for the Spartan News this year! She is Bangladeshi Canadian and spent the majority of her early childhood in Bangkok, Thailand. Ever since she was merely a child, Aurni has dreamed of becoming an author. She is particularly fond of creative writing and reading fiction, as well as playing the piano, practicing karate, listening to music, playing video games and coding! Her favourite novel is Circe by Madeline Miller. In her spare time, Aurni continues to work on her own dark fantasy novel series titled Embracing the Truth that she has been writing since grade 6.

Sasha Deepak

Sasha Deepak is in grade 9. This is her first year working with Spartan News. She’s really excited and hopes to write interesting articles about the school and it’s students. She loves reading and listening to music. Her favourite genres are fantasy, mystery and romance. Sasha was born in India but was raised abroad. She has lived in Winnipeg, Manitoba, The Netherlands, and now Guelph. She hopes to have a lot of fun this year with Spartan News!
